Poker as a game of deception
Poker, for some, is a game of deception. You can not always have the best hand in poker so that is why you must learn how to bluff. Apparently, there are two types of bluffing in poker. These are bluffing and semi-bluffing. Bluffing, in poker, is what you do when you make others believe that you have an excellent hand, when in reality, your cards aren't good at all. When your opponents call, then you lose. The goal is to make them fold by scaring them. In semi-bluffing, you trick your opponents into believing that you already have good cards, when you still do not, because you are still waiting for a card or two to make a good hand. Therefore, semi-bluffing is not as bad as bluffing. The goal initially in semi-bluffing is to make them fold, but if the community cards improved your hand, there is a bigger chance that you will win, and the pot now is bigger.Though bluffing is a good way to win a poker game, it should not be overused. If you use this all the time, other poker players will eventually observe what you are doing, so this won't work anymore. Bluffing will also not work when you are playing with novice poker players. This is due to the fact that novice poker players do not really care what your hands are, they just act on impulse.
Though many poker players find it embarrassing if they were caught bluffing, you can look at it in a different light. Look at it this way. When you bluffed, and the opponent called your bluff, then, you lose. Then, they will think that you are a bluffer. So when you finally get a good hand, they will still assume that you are bluffing when you raise your bet. This is good for you because you will be able to win huge pots as even the not-so-great hands will challenge you. This is is natural as they will begin to think you are just a always bluffing poker player.
In conclusion, like most poker strategies, bluffing should be used in perfect timing and should be done in a proper way. Do not let your tells give you away when you bluff because when you do, the purpose of bluffing is defeated. Bluffing is to deceive, so use your best efforts to deceive the other poker players. If you get caught, use that against them; do not be afraid to bluff again. Just be sure not to use this strategy as a habit or you will be just another predictable poker novice. Always keep your opponents guessing whether you are bluffing or not.
