Online Poker Chat: Is It 4 U?
Are you new to the world of online poker? Then, it is quite a possibility that you have little idea of the jargons used in online poker rooms. Sure, you know possibly all the poker terms out there, but how knowledgeable are you in online poker lingo?
Online poker lingo is different from ordinary poker language because the terms in online poker are shorter, like in your common chatrooms. In Yahoo chat, for example, you might have encountered terms like GTG which stands for got to go, and ASL which means age, sex, and location.
Well, terms in online poker rooms' chat log are like those. They are shorter, usually abbreviated ones derived from original poker words. Here are some of them:
We start with what you should type if you want to praise your poker opponent for a good hand. For this, you may key in GH, NH or VNH. They stand for good hand, nice hand and very nice hand, respectively. You use these terms if a full house, or any other big hands in poker, was formed by one of the players at the poker table.
A variation of these terms is the NFH, which stands for nice f***ing hand. You use this to demonstrate a stronger feeling about your poker opponent's hand. If GH, NH, or VNH couldn't quite encapsulate what you are feeling about the hand of your opponent, then key in NFH.
The next ones will be used for situations where there is bluffing. If someone was bluffing, and you called and found out you had a better hand, then you made a good call. Other players at the online poker table may type in GC to express their admiration for your decision-making skills.
On the other hand, if you folded when someone bluffed and that opponent has a weak hand in reality, then you will feel a sense of anger mostly for yourself because of your poor decision-making. Once that opponent reveals his hand and you see that he has a small pair when you had a straight but folded, you may key in WTF which means what the f***. This will show your utter surprise for the hand the beat yours.
You may also express the same surprise differently. If you want to express it more politely then key in N1, which means nice one. It would be wiser to do this because other poker players might get offended with WTF.
