Nenad Medic Chose Poker Over Basketball
Nenad Medic is a professional poker player who is also known as "Serb." He earned his nickname after his colleagues in the poker industry discovered that he was born in Serbia. Although he was born in the said country on December 21, 1983, he has been living in Niagara Falls, Ontario for a long time now and has been calling it his home ever since.
Nenad Medic studied at the University of Waterloo in Ontario. There, he used his height of 6'4" to his advantage by becoming a basketball player in the university. This was also the time when he began to gain interest in playing poker. He honed his skills by playing against his basketball teammates and emerging as a winner most of the time. During this time, he discovered that he really have the potential to become successful in the field of poker. And so after he graduated from the University of Waterloo, he decided to abandon his dream of becoming a professional basketball player. Instead, he began playing online poker in order to learn more about poker.
As soon as Nenad Medic felt like he was ready to enter the live poker tournament circuit, he did not hesitate to participate in live events as soon as possible. The first time he emerged successful in live events was on January 11, 2005 when he finished in the money in a No Limit Hold'em event of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. This was during the third season of the World Poker Tour. He landed on the sixth spot and received US$112,500. He made other money finishes in 2005 from his participation in the 6th Jack Binion World Poker Open, the World Poker Challenge, the Mirage Poker Showdown, and the World Series of Poker tournaments.
In 2006, Nenad Medic started the year right with a third place win at the 2006 Crown Australian Poker Championship. He must have started to become an expert in the No Limit Hold'em game that was why he placed third and won US$285,664.
We can further prove that Nenad Medic has started to become an expert in the No Limit Hold'em game with his victory on November 16, 2006, when he qualified for the championship game at the World Poker Finals. Such World Poker Finals formed part of the fifth season of the World Poker Tour (WPT). In the said event, he earned US$1,717,194 and his first WPT title.
After earning a WPT title, Nenad Medic joined more live poker events but the closest victory of all was when he placed third in another World Poker Finals held on November 13, 2007. He took home his cash prize of US$486,367.
These are only some of the numerous poker feats of Nenad Medic. He has truly made a name for himself in the poker industry. Indeed, his decision to abandon a career in professional basketball was the right one for him.
